National Space Grant College/Fellowship
Program
-
The Ohio Space Grant Consortium (OSGC) is
part of the National Space Grant College and Fellowship Program
that is funded through Congress and administered by NASA Headquarters.
There are 52 consortia; one in each state, and includes the
District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.
The Ohio Aerospace Institute (OAI) was selected in 1989 as
the lead institution, along with 12 member Ohio universities,
to form the Ohio Space Grant Consortium.
The Space Grant Objective:
-
To establish a national network of universities
with interests and capabilities in aeronautics, space, and
related fields
-
To encourage cooperative programs among universities,
aerospace industry, and federal, state, and local governments
-
To encourage interdisciplinary training, research
and public service programs related to aerospace
-
To recruit and train professionals, especially
women and underrepresented minorities, for careers in aerospace
science, technology, and allied fields
-
To promote a strong science, mathematics,
and technology educational base from elementary through university
levels
- The Space Grant's primary focus in Ohio are scholarships and
fellowships, and outreach to the K-12 educational system. The
scholarships and fellowships are for students in technical areas
that mirror disciplines at the NASA Glenn Research Center.
