How exactly are interns selected?
- Applications are reviewed for completeness and eligibility. All eligible
applicants are organized by category and reviewed by mentors for potential
candidates. The mentors are encouraged to contact students for additional
information.
About how many people usually apply, and how many
are selected?
- Usually, around 900 applications are received, and approximately 100
L.E.R.C.I.P. interns are selected each year.
-
It's weeks after April 15 and I haven't heard anything.
What does this mean?
- All of those who are selected are notified by April 15. The only exceptions
are alternates who are offered an internship when someone else declines.
How do you know if you are an alternate, and what
happens next?
- You don't. It all depends on the mentor's first choice. If the first
choice does not accept the internship offer, the second choice will
be sent an offer. The Ohio Aerospace Institute (OAI) DOES NOT
notify applicants not selected if they have been identified as alternates.
-
-
Are the selection decisions final?
- Yes, as long as the candidate accepts the offer. For those who are
not selected, we thank you for applying and encourage you to apply next
year.
I am a physics major and have an excellent academic
record. Why wasn't I selected?
- L.E.R.C.I.P. selections are based on both merit and NASA Glenn's organizational
and programmatic needs. We encourage candidates to review the NASA
Glenn Projects Page and also the NASA
Glenn Home Page to find out more about the programs and projects
our Center is involved with.
